In 1986 he graduated from the philological faculty of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and in 1990 he completed his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Russian Literature (the Pushkin House) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St Petersburg). In 2000 he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled &#8220;World history in the literature of Ancient Russia (based on chronographic and Paleya Chronicle materials of the 11th-15th centuries).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since 1990 he has been working in the Department of Ancient Russian Literature at Pushkin House, and since 2012 he has been the editor-in-chief of the <a href=\"http:\/\/lib2.pushkinskijdom.ru\/%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%BA%D1%81%D1%82-%D0%B8-%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B8%D1%8F\">almanac \u201cText and Tradition.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Evgeny Vodolazkin&#8217;s novel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Laurus-Eugene-Vodolazkin\/dp\/1780747551\"><em>Laurus <\/em><\/a>was shortlisted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2017\/dec\/06\/top-10-novels-about-god\">the Guardian newspaper<\/a> among the 10 best novels that deal with the presence or absence of God. The novel won several awards, including the Yasnaya Polyana, the Big Book awards and the Alexander Solzhenitsyn literature prize.
