Dr Blakesley charts its development from the lavish patronage of Catherine the Great to the unparalleled \u2013 and controversial \u2013 acquisitions of impressionist and post-impressionist works. Drawing on interviews with survivors of the Siege of Leningrad, this event also pays tribute to the Hermitage\u2019s remarkable survival through the Russian Revolution and two world wars, and its resurgent success on an international stage.<\/p>\n<p>Rosalind P. Blakesley is Head of the Department of History of Art and Reader in Russian and European Art, Cambridge.
