\"Ilichevsky<\/a>Cambridge Russian Book Club, in collaboration with the Cambridge Russian-Speaking Society, is delighted to invite you to an \u201cEvening of Prose and Poems\u201d \u2013 with a prominent Russian writer, Alexander Ilichevsky, and a highly acclaimed Russian poet, journalist and art historian, Yury Kublanovsky.<\/p>\n

Alexander Ilichevsky<\/strong> is a winner of the Russian Booker prize \u201cMatisse\u201d (2007) and the \u201cBig Book\u201d prize (2010).<\/p>\n

His bewitching virtuoso prose is infused with the traditions of Nabokov and Bunin \u2013 it is philosophical, embraces the universe, and is striking in its artistic richness and beauty. Books by Ilichevsky have been translated into dozens of foreign tongues and printed by the best and oldest publishing houses of the world, such as the French \u00c9ditions Gallimard.<\/p>\n

Yury Kublanovsky<\/strong> is a man who reflects the whole era. He is a poet, an art historian, a columnist, and one of those who masterminded the literary \u201cThaw\u201d of the 60s. He participated in the legendary publication \u201cMetropol\u201d, which became a landmark in Russian history, worked for the Parisian \u201cRussian Thought\u201d, presented the \u201cFaith and Word\u201d series of programmes on \u201cRadio Liberty\u201d, was exiled from the USSR, and came back to his motherland in 1990. His writings were highly acclaimed by Solzhenitsyn and Brodsky, among others.<\/p>\n

Thus, we are given a rare chance to spend an evening in the company of these outstanding authors \u2013 and of real Literature!<\/p>\n

Their books stir and provoke, they make you THINK, and contemplate about yourself \u2013 not only in the context of our fleeting life and history, but also in the context of the whole Universe. Their writings perceive a man from head to Heaven \u2013 a man who speaks and thinks in Russian.<\/p>\n
