An Evening of Poetry with Julia Nemirovskaya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An inspiring evening with renowned US-based poet, writer and literary scholar\u00a0Julia Nemirovskaya, featuring readings, and discussions on Moscow\u2019s New Wave poets, as well as reflections on the creative process, and an audience Q&amp;A.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julia teaches and directs student theater at the University of Oregon (UO), and will be visiting Cambridge from the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-12032 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.camruss.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Banner-photo_Julia-Nemirovskayas-book-covers-1024x376.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"235\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boris_Dralyuk\">Boris Dralyuk<\/a>, a distinguished writer, editor, and translator, has offered profound insights into Julia Nemirovskaya&#8217;s poetry.<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe moment I first encountered the poems of Julia Nemirovskaya, I felt I had acquired a magical mirror \u2013 a mirror that promised to reveal, with striking clarity, traits of my own personality that I had barely glimpsed before. I saw a version of myself in her lyrics and heard a version of my voice; but the self was brighter and better, the voice gentler yet surer than the one I was used to. She graduated from Moscow State University, where she defended her Ph.D. dissertation in 1991. Before emigrating to the United States that same year, she was a member of the renowned Kirill Kovaldzhi &#8220;New Wave Poets&#8221; seminar and the Moscow Poetry Club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has published four collections of poetry and short stories, a novel, and a book on Russian cultural history, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inside the Russian Soul: A Historical Survey of Russian Cultural Patterns<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (McGraw-Hill, 1997, 2001). Her work has appeared in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asymptote<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GLAS<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Literary Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Znamya<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LRS-Lettres Russes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bonniers Litter\u00e4ra Magasin<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and other publications. Her writings have been translated into several European languages.
