They needed to create &#8216;new art&#8217;, to become the beacon of their ideology.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation showcased the first expressions of the new proletarian art and examined the very phenomenon of the &#8216;Proletarian Culture&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Speaker:<\/strong> Natalia Murray is an art historian, specialising in the art of the Soviet era, an author of the first biography of the Russian art-critic, Nikolay Punin \u201cThe Unsung Hero of the Russian Avant-Garde. The Life and Times of Nikolay Punin\u201d and a visiting lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art and The University of Sussex.<\/p>\n<p>She graduated from the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, and completed a PhD at the Hermitage Museum in 1998. For the last 13 years she has been\u00a0organising exhibitions of contemporary Russian artists and giving lectures on 20<sup>th<\/sup> century Russian art.
