Liam Halligan is an economics commentator for Telegraph Media Group. Since 2003, he has written his weekly Sunday Telegraph<\/i> Economics Agenda column, which enjoys a wide international following and has been recognised with numerous industry accolades, including a highly-coveted British Press Award.<\/p>\n
Mr Halligan is also Editor-at-Large of Business New Europe, <\/i>a leading source of English-language business, economics and political news and analysis covering the 30 countries in Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union.<\/p>\n
From 2007-2013 he was Chief Economist at Prosperity Capital\u00a0Management (PCM), one of the world’s leading asset management firms, with\u00a0investments worth $5bn across Russia and the FSU.\u00a0His interest in Russia dates back to the early 1990s, when he moved to Moscow and co-founded Russian Economic Trends<\/i> – a widely respected source of independent data and commentary.\u00a0During that period, he wrote an influential column in The Moscow Times.<\/i> He went on\u00a0to cover Russia for The Economist<\/i> and The Economist Intelligence Unit<\/i>.<\/p>\n
Mr Halligan has also been a political\u00a0correspondent at The Financial Times<\/i>, based at the House of Commons. He also spent seven years as Economics Correspondent at Channel 4 News<\/i>, where he won a string of broadcasting awards, including the highly-prestigious Wincott Business Broadcast Award an unprecedented three times as well as the World Leadership Forum\u2019s Business Broadcasting Journalist of the Year (twice). While at Channel 4 News, he also researched, wrote and presented a series of hard-hitting Dispatches<\/i> investigations.<\/p>\n
Mr Halligan holds a First Class (Hons) degree in economics from the\u00a0University of Warwick and an MPhil (Econ) from St Antony\u2019s College, Oxford University.\u00a0 As a young academic economist, he held research posts at The\u00a0International Monetary Fund and The\u00a0International Food Policy Research Institute (both based in Washington DC), The Social Market\u00a0Foundation (a Westminster think-tank) and The London School of Economics.<\/p>\n
